What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, wha= t we have observed,[1] Jn 1:14 and have touch= ed with our hands, concerning the Word of life—
2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it = and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—

Revelation 19:13

And he was clo= thed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

BACKGROUND OF= “THE WORD”<= /b>

as, e.g., Isa 45:12: "I have made the earth, and created man upon it." In the <= span class=3DSpellE>Chaldee it is, "I, by my word, have made," &c. Isa 48:13: "Mine hand also hath la= id the foundation of the earth." In the Chaldee, "By my word I have founded the earth." And so in many other place= s.

5)   Used by the Jews as applicabl= e to the Messiah

In their writings he was c= ommonly known by the term "Mimra "--that is, "Word;" and no small part of the interpositions of God in defence of the Jewish nation were declared to be by "the Word of God." Thus, in their Targum on De 26:17,18, it is said, "Ye have appointed THE WORD OF GOD a king over you this day, that he may be your God." , it corresponds to Aramaic “memra” (also “Word”) also a technical theological term used by the rabbis in= the centuries before and after Jesus Christ in speaking of God’s expressi= on of Himself.

6)&nb= sp; Used by the Jews who were scattered among the Gentiles and especially those = who were conversant with the Greek philosophy.

Greek:

1)   Heraclei= tus

The world was in flux; the impersonal divine and unchanging lo= gos held it together and guided the changing process.

2)   Plato

The impersonal and unchang= ing logos kept the planets on course a= nd determined the seasons. used = by the followers of Plato among the Greeks, to denote the second person of the Trinity. The term nous, or mind, was commonly g= iven to this second person, but it was said that this nous<= /span> was the word or reason of the first person.

3)   Stoics

The logos was the “world reason” or manager, but was semi-personal.

4)   Philo

He personified the concept= of logos as “High Priest that s= et the soul of man before God,” or “the bridge between man and God,= 221; or “the tiller by which the Pilot of the universe steers all things.”

The term was therefore extensively in use among the Jews and Gentiles before John wrote = his Gospel, and it was certain that it would be applied to the second perso= n of the Trinity by Christians, whether converted from Judaism or Paganism.

The word “Word” does not = speak of a single word, but to the Greeks of “world reason” and to the Hebrews as “Wisdom.”

Christ As “The Word”<= /b>

HE IS THE EMBODIMENT OR PERSONIFIC= ATION OF:

1. &nb= sp;   The Powerful Agent of Creation

By faith we understand that the univer= se was Or the worlds were, or the ages were created by the word Or voice, or utterance of God, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.

2 Peter 3:5-7

They willfully ignore this: long ago t= he heavens and the earth existed out of water and through water by the word of God.
Through these the world of that time perished w= hen it was flooded by water.
But by the same word the present heavens and ea= rth are held in store

Jesus Christ is Creator – He is= Lord!

2. &nb= sp;   The Authoritative Law of God

Jeremiah 23:5-6

            Romans 10:4

For Christ is the end Or goal of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

The Law was given so that every mouth = could be stopped, and all the world would become guilty before God.

Jesus Christ is the= only hope of us becoming righteous.

He is the LORD OUR righteousness.<= /p>

3. &nb= sp;   The Sovereign Prophecy of God

            Deuteronomy 18:15-19

"The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to h= im. "This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not= hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, lest I die.'

            "And the LORD said to me, 'Th= ey have spoken well.

'I will raise up a prophet from among their coun= trymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them = all that I command him. 'And it shall come about that whoever will not listen t= o My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require [it] of him.

Isaiah 55:11

so My word that comes from M= y mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and will prosper in what I send it [to do]= * The bracketed text has been added for clarit= y. .”= =

Revelation 19:10

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do= not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testim= ony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

The Word of God, Jesus Christ,

is sovereign over the nations

and is moving history toward its ulti= mate destiny!

John 1:18

Long ago God spoke to the fathers by t= he prophets at different times and in different ways.

The Word, Jesus Chr= ist,

has revealed to us = the love and compassion of God,

and the holiness and judgment of God.

5. &nb= sp;   The Glorious Gospel of God

   &nbs= p;       1 Corinthians 1:29-31

so that no one Lit that not all flesh can boast in His presence.
But from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who= for us became wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
in order that, as it is written: <= span class=3Dtanakhquote>The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.

Without the Word, there is no Gospel.=

6.   &= nbsp; The Comprehensive Deposit of All Truth, Wisdom & Knowledge=

      Christ - =
In Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledg= e are hidden.

All wisdom in knowi= ng God and knowing how to live successfully is found in Jesus Christ, the Word.

7.   &= nbsp; The Definitive Proof That Demands Faith

   &nbs= p;       Romans 10:8-9

But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart" --that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,= you will be saved;

Jesus Christ is God’s logic, God’s proof.
