From the Hebrew wo= rd in Leviticus 3:1, a Peace Offering was

1) An offering in return for an injury

2) A sacrifice for alliance or friendship: a covenant meal<= /span>

3) A voluntary sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise=

An Offering Satisfying an Offended Party

1 Peter 4:18

Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?" (NKJV)

Our sins and sinfulness is so great an offense – an infinite offense to a holy God, that our salvation would seem from a human point of view to be virtually impossible, and very difficult.&= nbsp;

This great offense had to be surmounted or overcome!!!

There is one word in the N.T. that expresses God’s powerful way of surmount= ing this infinite offense and obstacle to our salvation: that word is propitiation!

“The offering which appeases the wrath of one against whom an offence has been committed.”

Romans 3:24-25a

They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

The Peace Offering speaks of a relationship: an alliance of friendship; a bond of commitment.

In the HCSB the Peace Offering is called a “Fellowship Offering” f= or that reason.

     An Offering Stressing Gratitude for Grace<= /i>

      The Peace Offering was sometimes called a “thank offering,”

according to Keil & Delitzsch, and as such could at times be the acknowledgment of gratitude for salvation already received.

Therefore, through Him let us continua= lly offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name.
