It is finished:
The sufferings and agonies of his sacrificial death to redeem man are over.
The work long contemplated, long promised, long expect= ed by prophets and saints, is done.
The toils in the ministry, the persecutions and mocker= ies, and the pangs of the garden and the cross, are ended, and man is redeemed. =
What a wonderful declaration was this!
How full of consolation to man!
And how should this dying declaration of the Savior re= ach every heart and affect every soul!

that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, “I’m thirsty!”=
The words “accomplished̶=

“fulfilled” are both the Greek word tetele=
stai.
Jesus knew that everything = had been accomplished except one thing.
One biblical prophecy about= him had yet to be fulfilled.
The usual word used numerou=
s times
for fulfilled is plhrow.
But one other lone Scriptur= e had to be fulfilled to fulfill (Gk. only time – “accomplish” or “complete”) the Scriptures!
Jesus perfectly fulfilled the entire prophetic image!
It is finished; that is, the scriptures are now fulfilled; all the types that did prefigure me, all the prophetical predictions that were made of me, all the Jewish sacrifices that pointed at me, have now received their final accomplishment in me, and are abolished in my death.
John uses the exact same Gr=
eek word
in 19:29 that is used in the Greek Septuagint in the Messianic prophecy of
Psalm 69:21:
Instead, they gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave=
me
vinegar to drink.
Not the same drink as offered to Jesus on his way to
(Mark 15:23) “wine mixed with myrrh” a strong sedative that wo= uld have reduced his pain – but Jesus refused it choosing rather to suffer the full agony of pain and to do so with complete consciousness.
Jesus shout of triumph indicates his complete accomplishment of the
Father’s Word and Will.

world might be saved through Him.
It is finished: that is, the glorious work of man's redemption and salvation is perfected and performed, consummated and completed, the price is paid, satisfaction is given, redemp= tion is purchased, and salvation insured to a miserable world.
It was accomplished – all was accomplished:

&nbs= p; He bore the curse of the Law by his death!

Jesus replied,
